From the box: Burn your incense on natural cedar charcoal! Our charcoal burns cleanly, allowing the aroma of your loose or pressed incense to take the spotlight. It contains no toxic substances, and so takes longer to ignite. Apply a flame for several moments, and blow gently to reveal the red-orange outline of where the charcoal is burning. Place the tab on a bed of white ash in a heat-safe dish or burner. Our charcoal is derived from a Japanese cedar, “hinoki” (Chamaecyparis obtusa). The wood is kiln-fired to remove water, methane, hydrogen, tar, and other unwanted elements. What remains is the baked wood, carbon, and ash.
