Event Details

Introduction to Dzogchen Meditation & Soul Retrieval with the Five Elements Practice

Introduction to Dzogchen Meditation (Friday afternoon and Saturday morning)

Dzogchen meditation, within Tibetan Buddhism, aims at the direct recognition of the inherently clear and conscious nature of the mind.
It does not seek to modify experience, but rather to rest in an open presence where thoughts and emotions are released on their own.
It is a path to immediate realization based on effortless observation and stability in that essential awareness.

Soul Retrieval with the Five Elements Practice (Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning)

The Soul Retrieval practice in the Bön tradition seeks to restore vitality and energetic integrity by reintegrating lost aspects of the self.
It is based on the harmonization of the five elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth, understood as fundamental qualities of experience. Through mindful presence, visualization, and energy work, emotional and vital blocks are recognized and transformed.
Each element allows you to recover essential qualities such as openness, clarity, warmth, fluidity, and stability.

ABOUT THE GUEST TEACHERS FROM INDIA:

Sangmo (Yangri), Ph.D. is a scholar, teacher, and translator. She is the first Tibetan woman to earn a Ph.D. in Tibetan Bon philosophy studies. A recipient of the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund grant, she received the Prime Minister Award from the Tibetan Government-in-Exile in India in 2013.
After completing her Ph.D., she was invited by H.H. the 33rd Menri Trizin, Lungtok Tenpe Nyima Rinpoche, to teach at the dialectic school of Redna Menling Nunnery in Dolanji.
From 2015 to 2020, she taught Bon philosophy at Lishu Institute near Dehradun, India—both in person and online—to Western students. Since 2021, she has offered independent online teachings on Ngondro and Phowa to international students. Throughout her career, she has worked tirelessly to preserve Bon teachings through teaching, translation, and editing Bon texts, with a special focus on female practitioners. She has also translated teachings from Tibetan to English for masters at Lishu Institute and Menri Monastery.
Her publications include:
• Escape from Darkness: The Spiritual Journey of the Buddha Tonpa Shenrab Miwo’s Daughter, Shenza Nechung—a translation of a chapter from the biography of Buddha Shenrab Miwo.
• The Lamp of Uza Rinchen Sal: Illuminating the Illusory Vision of the Bardo, the Purifying Period of the Karmic Vision of the Six Lokas, and a Pure Vision of the Sugatas (her second book).
• Zhang zhung Nyengyud Ngondro: The Preliminary Practices to Dzogchen According to the Oral Transmission of Zhangzhung—translated from the Tibetan teachings of Ponlop Tsangpa Tenzin Rinpoche at Shenten.
• Editor of Palden Tsultrim’s A Commentary on the Three Ornaments of Poetry.

Geshe Sherap Lodoe is the head teacher at Lishu Institute in northern India, founded in 2008 by Geshe Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche for the intensive study and practice of Bön.
Born in 1975 in the Bönpo village of Tsarong in Tibet’s Kham region, Geshe Lodoe hails from a Bönpo family—his father was a tantric practitioner at Wadag Bon Gon Monastery. He began his studies with Lama Sherab Lodoe of the Tro Tsang lineage, then received preliminary teachings from Kalsang Yungdrung, abbot of Ta Gon Monastery. At age 21, he was ordained a novice monk by Kalsang Yonten Gyatso from Tibet’s Amdo region.
On pilgrimage to the sacred mountain Kongpo Bön Ri, the 22-year-old monk learned of Menri Monastery in India and felt a profound calling. He made the arduous journey on foot from Tibet to Nepal across the Himalayas, reaching Menri in February 1999. On the auspicious fifth day of the Tibetan New Year—also the birthday of Bön master Nyame Sherab Gyaltsen—he was fully ordained by H.H. the 33rd Menri Trizin, Lungtok Tenpai Nyima Rinpoche, and H.E. Menri Lopon Trinley Nyima Rinpoche.
One month later, on March 19, he entered Menri’s Bön Dialectic School, studying Dzogchen, tantra, sutra, and the ten sciences of the Bön tradition. After 15 years of rigorous study and practice, he earned his geshe degree in 2014. During this time, he lectured to young monks, served as president of the Dialectic School, acted as treasurer for a year, and was appointed by H.H. Lungtok Tenpai Nyima Rinpoche to represent Bön at inter-school conferences with Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu, and Gelug traditions.
From 2015 to 2020, he served as a main residential teacher at Lishu Institute, instructing international students. Since 2021, he has taught independently online to students worldwide, made multiple visits to Europe to share Bön’s ancient wisdom, and continues supporting practitioners globally.
