A Bridge to Everywhere: Bringing Computer Skills to Remote Nepal

A live online conversation with Tsewang Norbu Lama and host Jhama Lhamo. In English and Tibetan.

Even now, in the 21st century, there are remote communities around the world that remain accessible only on foot or by small aircraft. One of them is Humla, Nepal, nestled in the Himalayas at the border of the Tibetan Autonomous Region amid breathtaking vistas.

Humla’s population of more than 55,000 has low education levels with little to no access to computers or computer skills, putting residents at high risk for human trafficking and other forms of exploitation. A non-governmental organization (NGO) has launched a new project to bring computer education to the region, enabling residents to gain in-demand skills and sustainable employment without leaving their beloved homeland. In this broadcast, Tibetan Bön-Buddhist practitioner Tsewang Norbu Lama, chair of MS Kundrol Ling, will explain the challenges Humla faces, how the organization’s proposed Humla Computer School has already begun serving the community’s needs through a pilot project, and his dreams for a fully plugged-in future.
