Children

Family participation is encouraged at Serenity Ridge. Children may attend retreats with their parent or guardian. The responsible parent or guardian must contact the registrar to inquire about bringing a child to determine current room availability and pricing. The cost for children ages 15 and under to attend a retreat is $20 per day; cost for children ages 16–17 is $40 per day, plus accommodations.

MORE INFORMATION
All guests under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult 21 years or older who also must sign our parent/guardian waiver. Children are not to be left alone while their parent/guardian is attending the retreat. Minors using our swimming pool must be under adult supervision at all times.

Maintaining silence in the gompa (teaching hall) during teachings and practices is important to support a contemplative, distraction-free environment for practitioners, as well as to ensure clear audio recordings of the teachings and practices. Therefore, children are welcome at practices or teachings as long as they remain quiet, are well-behaved and under their parent’s close supervision. We ask parents to promptly remove any child from the gompa who is unable to remain silent and seated during teachings and practices.

For accommodations, families are typically allowed to use any of the large rooms (two beds) with ensuite bathrooms. These rooms are charged per room, not per person. Families also may book double rooms, which will be charged as double occupancy. Bunk rooms may be used by families paid for by the bed, and camping is available with two people allowed per site. Children must stay with an adult family member 21 year of age or older in accommodations.

Cancellation policy
Refunds for registration and accommodations will be given, minus a $75 processing fee, for cancellations received 14 days or more prior to the start of the retreat.

Cancellations made between 2 and 14 days prior to the start of the retreat will receive a full refund on registration, minus a $75 processing fee, and a 50% refund of accommodations payments.

No refund will be given for registration or accommodations if cancellation occurs with less than 48 hours’ notice of the start of the event, if the registrant does not show up for the retreat, or if the participant leaves early.

We will consider cancellations for emergencies on a case by case basis.

HOURS
Our retreat center is open during retreats and other publicized events. During retreats, registrants may arrive no sooner than 4 p.m. the day the retreat begins in order to check into Garuda House or their tent site; and depart at the completion of cleanup on the last day of the retreat. Retreat participants are welcomed to extend their stay, with advance notice.
FOOD
Retreat cost includes meals. We provide a simple menu with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Please indicate with your registration which type of meals you prefer. Those with other special dietary needs may need to bring supplemental food in case their needs are not met by our menu.
Caretaking
All retreatants are invited to join in caring for our retreat center by participating in a daily caretaking hour during our retreats. Your participation is encouraged and most welcome.
What to Bring
There will be cushions and chairs available in the teaching hall, but be sure to bring what will make you comfortable, along with notebook, pens, and anything else you may need. Serenity Ridge has a swimming pool open seasonally, so bring a bathing suit and a towel if you wish to swim. If you are planning to tent, please bring along your tent and anything else you might need (flashlights, insect repellent, bedding, towels, toiletries, rain gear, etc.). If you are registered for a room in Garuda House, sheets and towels will be provided, but please bring your own towel if you intend to use the pool.
