When we realize the boundless openness and pure awareness that naturally dwell within each of us, this recognition manifests as five qualities of wisdom.

During this two-day retreat, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche will transmit the traditional teaching of the Five Wisdoms, guiding us with the depth of his experience.

The Five Wisdoms in the Bön Dzogchen Tradition

In the Tibetan Bön Dzogchen tradition, the word Wisdom has a unique meaning: it refers to recognizing the natural state—our true nature.
This wisdom is not something acquired over time, with age or experience; it is awakened by directly recognizing the complete perfection of each moment.

Five Wisdom Qualities – Five Pure Lights

When we realize the open and luminous nature of the mind, this recognition manifests as:

• The Wisdom of Emptiness
• Mirror-like Wisdom
• The Wisdom of Equanimity
• Discriminating Wisdom
• All-Accomplishing Wisdom

These correspond to the Five Pure Lights, the aspects of primordial luminosity. They are also known as the rainbow energies of the single sphere of existence.

When we remain caught in delusion or ignorance, these lights appear as negative emotions. However, when we realize their pure essence, they transform into the Five Wisdoms and the Five Buddha Families.

The Retreat with Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche

With his characteristic clarity and warmth, Rinpoche will present these ancient, profound teachings in a way that is accessible and applicable in daily life—helping us live with more awareness and inner harmony.

By practicing these teachings, we can increase our presence in every moment, promote greater health and well-being, and ultimately recognize the true nature of our mind, leading to liberation.

The retreat will include both teaching and guided meditation sessions to support direct experience and integration.

This retreat is open to everyone, regardless of prior experience.

You are cordially invited to a very special event! For the first time in Poland Rinpoche will be teaching the five-year dzogchen Gyalwa Chaktri cycle.

The Experiential Transmission of Zhang Zhung (Gyalwa Chaktri) is the centerpiece of Geshe Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche’s dzogchen teachings. Rinpoche teaches this is five-year cycle.
The concise and essential practice manual of the Experiential Transmission by the great adept Drugyalwa Yungdrung, provides complete instructions for those aspiring to the practice of dzogchen, the path of self-liberation.

Anyone can participate, including newcomers. Attendance is possible both in person and online via Zoom.

Experiencing Our Authentic Being Through the Teachings of the Six Lokas (Continued)

In 2023/24, Rinpoche combined the teachings on the Six Lamps with breathing exercises from the Tummo, demonstrating the benefits of both aspects of knowledge and practice for experiencing the nature of mind. Rinpoche also began teaching the Six Lokas in this context and will continue this year. Participation in the retreat is not dependent on previous year’s attendance. Anyone can register.

Lamps illuminate our path in the darkness, and they simultaneously illuminate themselves. The Instruction on the Six Lamps is an important Dzogchen work and one of the root texts of Zhang Zhung Nyengyü. This teaching describes the principles of recognizing the natural state and shows how they can be experienced by the practitioner. The text describes Trekchö and Thögal practices as revealed by Tapihritsa to Gyerpung Nangzher Löpo.

Negative emotions such as anger, greed, and pride cause suffering in our lives. According to Tibetan spiritual traditions, these emotions keep us trapped in the endless cycle of cyclic existence: samsara. The teachings of the six realms, or six lokas, give us the opportunity to fundamentally recognize these negative emotions, clarify them, and transform them into positive qualities that can strengthen and enrich our lives.

The retreat will be translated from English into German.

24-Hour Full Moon Practice: Finding Refuge Within

On August 8, 2025, join us online for a 10 a.m. meditation guided by Marcy Vaughn, followed by a 24-hour session of silent contemplation alternating with periods of guided meditation. Our online gathering offers a sacred space in which we acknowledge personal pain and societal challenges while abiding within the open, clear, warmth of presence — who we truly are. Discovering this space of inner refuge is the ultimate sense of protection and supports genuine compassion to emerge to meet the challenges we face individually and collectively.

Each month the 24-hour session begins with a guided meditation at 10 a.m. New York time on the day of the full moon and continues unbroken until 10 a.m. the following day. We are supported by Ligmincha International’s global community of practitioners. Unlike Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche’s CyberSangha® Facebook Live broadcasts, the 24-hour full moon practice takes place via Zoom. Its simple group meditation is open to anyone regardless of one’s religious or spiritual background. There is no cost to participate, but registration is required.

In the Dzogchen tradition, to “Say Yes to Life” means to embrace each moment with openness, awareness, and heartfelt acceptance. This teaching is not merely conceptual—it is a lived, embodied practice. Through meditation, breath awareness, and direct self-inquiry, we cultivate the capacity to remain present and open in all circumstances. As we deepen this presence, we learn to receive life as it is—with gratitude, clarity, and trust.

Integration is key. The art of saying yes is not confined to the meditation cushion. It extends into daily life: into our relationships, decisions, and challenges. Uza Rinchen Sal was an uneducated Tibetan woman who lived many centuries ago in a small village. She became ill, died, and travelled through the bardo of death visiting all of the hell realms as well as many buddha-fields and the lands of the khandro, or sky-walkers. Just before her body was to be burned, Uza Rinchen Sal came back to life. She was a transformed person. Her experiences were found to be perfectly in accord with all the teachings of the Bön tradition, and her narrative was written down for the benefit of practitioners.

Come hear the author and scholar Dr. Sangmo Yangri discuss her translation of this important work. Sangmo-la will share more about its history and how this tale can serve as a guide to living a life of dharma and practice. Sangmo-la is not only a scholar and an author but she is a deeply experienced practitioner who comes from a long line of dharma practitioners. She has spent many years working to reclaim the narratives of women in the Tibetan Bön tradition.

Sangmo (Yangri), Ph.D, scholar, teacher, and translator, is the first Tibetan woman to receive a Ph.D In Tibetan Bon philosophy studies. A recipient of the Jwaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund grant, she won the Prime Minister Award from the Tibetan Government in Exile in India in 2013.

After completing her PhD, she was asked by His Holiness the 33rd Menri Trizin Lungtok Tenpe Nyima Rinpoche to teach at the dialectic school at the Redna Menling Nunnery in Dolanji.

She taught at Lishu Institute in India both in site and online the Bon teaching to western students. She has also translated from Tibetan to English various teachers from Lishu Institute and from Menri Monastery.

Sangmo-la’s first book in English is: Escape from Darkness: The spiritual journey of the Buddha Tonpa Shenrab Miwo’s daughter ShenzaNechung. This book is a translation of a chapter of the biography of Buddha Shenrab Miwo. Her second publication in English is The Lamp of UZa Rinchin Sal, a Delog story from the Bön tradition. She has also translated the Zhang Zhung Nyengyud Ngondro: The preliminary Practices to Dzogchen according to the Oral Transmission of Zhangzhung from the Tibetan teaching of PonlobTsangpa Tenzin Rinpoche in Shenten from the Tibetan to English. She is the editor of the Palden Tsultrim’s “A Commentary on the Three Ornaments of Poetry” book.

Our soul (Tibetan: “la”) is composed of the living qualities of the elements at a very subtle level — and traumatic events or other kinds of shock to the body, mind or heart can cause our soul, or a fragment of it, to break, be lost, or otherwise damaged.

The shamanic ritual of soul retrieval (la gu) calls on the living essence of the elements — the elemental energies or spirits — to balance and heal what has been lost or harmed. At this retreat, Lama Kalsang will teach about the purpose of soul retrieval in the morning and he will perform the soul retrieval ritual for all in attendance in the afternoon.

Soul Retrieval is a practice taught by the enlightened being, Tsewang Rikdzin, the long life deity of the Tibetan Bön tradition. This practice reaches back centuries and is and can facilitate healing at physical, energetic and spiritual levels. Everyone is welcome to attend, and anyone approaching the sacred ceremony with an open mind can benefit.

Rinpoche’s teaching will focus on the Dzogchen practices of trekchö and tögal in the Bön tradition. Rooted in the ancient Tibetan Bön Buddhist tradition, Dzogchen, or the “Great Perfection,” is a profound practice that focuses on recognizing and resting in the natural state of mind, often described as naked awareness or luminous clarity. Dzogchen has the power to transform ordinary perceptions of the world and our self from a fragmented, anxious outlook to one of unity and tranquility.

As in the Buddhist traditions, “trekchö” and “tögal” are both advanced meditation practices of the Dzogchen teachings. Trekchö serves as the foundational practice that cuts through mental elaborations to help recognize one’s innate awareness, while tögal relates to clear light and the visions that can arise from that state, supported by the practices of sky gazing, sun gazing and dark retreat. This Dzogchen teaching is open to all. Rinpoche will be teaching at Shambhala in lieu of teaching in Crestone, Colorado, where his Chamma Ling Colorado center has cabins available for solitary retreat including dark retreat.
